Domestic pet insurance policies do not provide suitable cover for any sort of working dog. Although there are policies advertised as being appropriate for working animals, these always seem to exclude any commercial activity, where the owner receives payment for the use of the dog. Thus, up to now, most shepherds, gamekeepers or security guards have been prevented from buying valid insurance for their dogs.

We have therefore arranged an insurance policy specifically for working dogs which provides vet fee cover from the puppy stage through the dog’s working life, ceasing once the dog reaches nine years of age.

The policy can include gundogs, sheep dogs, pastoral dogs, drug/explosive detection, search and rescue dogs, security guard dogs, guide/hearing/therapy dogs, including displays, working demonstrations and trials/competitions for the above uses.It specifically includes the use of dogs for commercial purposes, and for which the owner receives payment, while also being suitable for privately owned working animals, such as gun dogs.

Policies can be arranged for a single dogs or multiple dogs (unlimited in number).

Insurance cover is not available for dogs used for racing.

The policy does not include public liability insurance, as in the case of a working dog, this will already be covered by your business insurance.
