Gender based pricing

The principle of the equality of individuals is enshrined in Article 6 of the Treaty on European Union and it sits behind every European Law. Following a judgement in the European Court of Justice it will be illegal from 21st December 2012 for insurers to charge differential rates because of gender for insurance products. Much publicity has been given to the consequences for young female drivers and less young male pensioners but this ruling does not have any effect on most types of policy offered by Cliverton.

Article 6 defines a number of areas where equality must be seen to apply, including race, gender, disability and age. Certain products offered by Cliverton have age restrictions on them and, although the European Court of Justice ruling does not apply to these at present it remains to be seen whether such policies are affected in future.
