Insurance companies report seasonal thefts of garden machinery
Hard to believe, but it is spring-time in the British Isles. At this time of year garden equipment is very much on the criminal’s agenda, and insurance companies are reporting an increase in seasonal thefts from outbuildings. Lawn mowers, power tools and in particular, chainsaws and strimmers, are top of the shopping list.
Please lock your garden shed, and if the door is hung on T-hinges with cross-head screws, remember it only takes seconds to take the doors off with an electric screwdriver or drill. A few pence in the hardware store will secure some one way screws which cannot readily be screwed out again.
There are a number of manufacturers of D-rings which can be fixed securely to concrete floors and which can be used to chain vulnerable items.
As always, owners of ATVs, quad bikes and gators should remember that by far the largest cause of insurance claim for these items is theft. If such items are not specifically mentioned on your insurance policy, they will not be insured. Please be in touch with your normal Cliverton contact if you have any doubt about your insurance cover for tools, plant and machinery.
