Motor accidents

1. Do not admit liability or make any offer of payment

2. Obtain the following information:

  • the name and address of the driver and owner of each vehicle involved
  • the name of their insurers and the policy number
  • the registration numbers, make and model of each vehicle involved
  • the names and addresses of independent witnesses

3. Note the following information:

  • the apparent damage to the other vehicle(s)
  • road names, marking and lighting
  • the number of any police officer who attends the scene of the accident

4. Inform us as soon as possible.

Remember the Law requires that, if you have an accident which results in damage to someone else’s vehicle, property or animal, you must:

1. Stop at the scene of the accident

2. Give your name, address and vehicle number to anyone who has reasonable grounds for requiring such information

3. Give the name and address of the owner of the vehicle if it does not belong to you.

  • If you are not able to exchange names and addresses you must report the accident to the police as soon as possible and in any case within 24 hours.
  • If anyone is injured (other than yourself) you must report the accident to the police as soon as possible and in any case within 24 hours.
