Compulsory Microchipping of Horses, Ponies and Donkeys required from October 2020

On 25th June 2018 a new law was passed requiring all horses, ponies and donkeys to be microchipped from October 2020. This law was introduced alongside a new Central Equine Database (CED) with the aim of reducing abandonments, identify owners and improve horse welfare as well as improving an owners’ chances of being reunited with lost or stolen horses.
