February 22nd is Worldwide Walking the Dog Day and with over 8,000 dog walkers insured by us, it’s the perfect time to consider insurance options.

We can’t control the weather this time of the year (we wish we could!) and believe us, we all love nothing more than a stroll along the park in the sunshine with our pooches by our side during the summer months. It doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy a walk to celebrate the day and we hope you do, it will just be a case of preparing yourself and the dogs for the walk in our glorious British weather.

It’s estimated that dog owners in the UK spend roughly £3000 per annum on dog walking and pet care services and if you are a professional Dog Walker tasked with the responsibility of caring for other people’s pets, there are a few things to think of in terms of your liability towards members of the public and the animals in your care.

It is worth remembering that cheap insurance does not always necessarily mean the most suitable for your requirements and whether you are just starting out your business or have been trading for years it is worth shopping around to find the most suitable insurance to suit your needs.

Firstly, if you are walking dogs that are not your own it is recommended that you hold public liability insurance in case of third party injury or third party property damage that may be caused to any member of the public during the course of your business activities.

We love our pets and want nothing more than to know that they are safely looked after whilst in the care of their Pet Minder/Dog walker, which is why we include an unlimited level or Care, Custody and Control cover on our policies. This means that should the worse happen and an animal is injured in your care that you are deemed liable for your clients can be safe in the knowledge that you are adequately insured.

To ensure safe levels of Dog Walking, we also limit the number of dogs walked at any one time to 6, and off lead walking is permitted provided you have written permissions in place and are comfortable in doing so. Although we limit the number, we advise that you confirm with your local authority to check the legislation in place with regards to dog walking numbers, especially in public areas, as this can vary depending on your local authority.

With that in mind if you do wish to discuss your requirements, please do contact the office 01328 857921.

Throw on a pair of walking boots/wellies, bundle up warm (with a coat for the pooches too) and head for a leisurely stroll. Utilise the beautiful scenery that the UK has to offer and enjoy sharing the views with your dogs.

Happy Walking!
